Thunder Storm Clouds Streaking by with Lightning Flashing Within

Here’s another take on the thunderstorm from Upstate New York. This image was taken earlier in the night, at dusk, when the ambient light levels allowed the camera to constantly see the clouds blurring by, as opposed to the frozen action every few seconds like in my last image.

Cumulonimbus Clouds Frozen by Flashes of Lightning

This image was taken on my trip to New York. While driving around looking for frogs on the road one night, Eric and I came across a huge thunderhead flashing repeatedly with lightning from within. Urgently trying to find a location to photograph it from, we eventually managed to find a clear farm field and pulled over the photograph the storm. We spent the next 30 minutes photographing it as it moved from left to right across the horizon, until eventually the rain, wind, and lightning got much too close to us. In this image, the cloud is frozen each time lightning flashed. The effect is a little weird, but I think I like it. What do you guys think?

A Portrait of an Adult Northern Watersnake (Nerodia sipedon) Swimming in Water

This is an image from my trip to Upstate New York. My friend Eric Dresser has a family of these watersnakes at a beaver pond on his property, and oddly, they are practically tame, repeatedly coming back to land just feet away from us within seconds of being scared into the water. Pretty unique!

Pastel Sunrise Over the Atlantic Ocean, Bethany Beach, Delaware

Well, I’m back from my trip to Bethany Beach, Delaware. I had a blast! The waves were up quite a bit, and we were either playing frisbee, laying on the beach, or out in the water for most of the 3 days I was there. I attempted two sunrise photo shoots, and really got lucky one morning. Not only did the sky light up with beautiful pink hues, but I also managed to find some unique foregrounds in the sand, caused by waves coming onshore and then retreating back into the ocean. Think about the correct sequence of waves it took to make these lines in the sand, each slightly lower than the next so as not to wipe them all away. Pretty cool, I think!

Sunset on Gorton Pond, Upstate New York

I just got back from New York last night, and had an awesome trip. It was mostly a lot of fun hanging out with family and friends, but I did manage to squeeze some photography time in. This image is from one of two times I went to a local beaver pond named Gorton Pond to try and get some decent sunset light. While this light isn’t neccesarily spectacular, I’m pretty happy with the image I came away with.

In other news, I’m now heading up to my cousin’s friend’s beach house in Bethany Beach, Delaware, for some unplanned fun in the sun and should be back within a week. As usual, I’m going to try and get in as many sunrises and sunsets as possible. The weather is calling for partly cloudy most of the time, which should be perfect for some beautiful light. I hope!

Cute White-tailed Deer Fawn Twins Sniffing Each Other, Shenandoah National Park, Virginia

This one is from a trip up to Big Meadows in Shenandoah National Park a few days ago. My friend Alex and I found these twins and followed them for a while, getting some decent shots. Overall however, the number of fawns is down quite a bit from years past, partly due to Black Bear and Coyote predation. But, enough with the bad news, I think this image is just oozing with cuteness!

Adult Great Blue Heron with Rushing Water at it’s Feet, Great Falls National Park, Virginia

Here’s another from my series of Great Falls Great Blue Herons. This is the same individual as in my post on June 16th, but this time he is even closer to the water in attempt to catch a fish. He didn’t succeed, as another heron came in and scared him off.
