Adult Semipalmated Plover (Charadrius semipalmatus) in Breeding Plumage Walking in Green Water

Here’s another image from one of my trips up to Ohio. Despite being relatively common, this was a new species for me. I’m pretty happy about it too, they are beautiful birds, they were in an awesome setting, and have great personalities when watched in person.

Wilson’s Snipe (Gallinago delicata) Wingstretch, Ohio

With all of that talk about the awesome camping in West Virginia, you might have expected a landscape image from the mountains. Well, it turns out I’m actually going to save that until a little later and post a beautiful bird from the second half of my trip to lake Erie in Ohio. At this location, a small mudpit along Lake Erie, there were many photogenic shorebirds that were quite tame. In this image, while lying on my stomach in the mud, I photographed a Wilson’s Snipe (a normally shy and secretive bird) performing a wingstretch with a colorful background.

Beautiful Camping Location, West Virginia

It’s been a while! My trip to West Virginia was awesome, and also cut short by a detour up to a location with many species of shorebirds in Ohio!

In West Virginia, the photo opportunities were a bit few and far between, although we did get one decent sunrise. With that said, I came back with a ton of awesome memories. My friend Alex and I slept out on a flat slab of rock at an overlook without any tent or tarp. Only our sleeping pads and bags! To top things off, we saw a meteor at least every minute, with some so big that they left visible smoke trails. I don’t think I will forget those few nights for a long time to come. Before I get into any of my photos from the trip, I’m going to dedicate this first blog post to some of the pictures taken of myself and our campsite. Thanks for looking.

Bolts and Flashes of Lightning Coming from Within a Thunderhead

I photographed this beautiful storm cloud right from my driveway after getting home from work two days ago. Most of the lightning bolts were contained within the cloud, but on this image I managed to get a little bit of bolt action.

As a bit of news, I’m leaving late tonight for the highlands of West Virginia and won’t be back until Monday night. Four solid days of West Virginia photography, and I can’t wait. It’s just the thing I need after not taking any new photographs in too long!

Closeup of Cathedral Falls in Spring, West Virginia

Going back a bit further, this image was taken right after I got my new camera gear in late spring. I’ve already posted a wider view of this scene, but here is the closer view. I like the additional detail of this image compared to my first one.

Peaceful Sunrise on the Atlantic, Middlesex Beach, Delaware

Sorry my blog has been a little slow lately. August is pretty much a horrible time of year in Virginia. Hot and humid, with little wildlife around, and too much haze for most decent landscapes. I’ve been keeping myself busy working on my website and trying to figure out some more ways to market myself.

Anyways, since I haven’t been out to photograph in a long time, I’m going to show some of my images for the recent months. To start things off, here is another image from my trip to Middlesex Beach. As with the last one, I really like the leading lines in the foreground.
