Hey everyone,

I recently lost the copy of Photoshop I was using (borrowed). I know right, how professional. Anyways, until I’m able to purchase a prohibitively expensive copy for myself, I won’t be posting any new images, as I cannot process any. The good news is, when I do get a copy I’ll have a fun time going through my likely extensive backlog of RAW files, with many blog posts to accompany them.

I may post older images from time to time, but the real fun for me is with the new ones. Goodbye for now!

This is one of the few landscape images I was able to get on my last trip to West Virginia. As I took this photograph, I largely thought it was a bust of a morning. However, after looking at the images a few times later, on my monitor, this one held some promise. In particular, I really like the bush and the diffused yet directional light on the rocks.

During my trip to West Virginia, I spent the mid-day hours looking for snakes and salamanders to photograph. I didn’t have as much luck as usual, but I did manage to find a few animals, including this Northern Two-lined Salamander. This salamander was easily the most beautiful of its species that I had found, with its large size and striking patterns. I made a little studio on some colorful pebbles near where I found him, and managed to get a few images.

I found this young Red Fox on my last trip to West Virginia. At first, I had spotted him in the middle of a dirt road I was driving down. As I drove closer, I realized that he wasn’t planning on running away. With that, I backed up to a small field out of view of where the fox was standing and began changing my lens to my telephoto to attempt to get some photographs of him. However, before I could even get my lens changed, he came trotting up to within 50 feet of me and began jumping and running through the field trying to catch and eat grasshoppers! The light was pretty harsh, and I never did manage to get any good photographs of him jumping, but I did get a few portraits I’m happy with. He stayed with me for over an hour, and at some points came too close for me to even focus!

Here’s another one from Lake Erie in Ohio. There were many Least Sandpipers there, many of them in beautiful breeding plumage.

As of late, I haven’t been getting out to photograph too much. I’m definately looking forward to autumn in West Virginia in the beginning of October!

This is another image from my second trip up to Lake Erie in Ohio. My friend Alex Mody and I layed in the mud in the same spot for most of the afternoon, waiting for any shorebirds to come close enough to photograph. Eventually, they were oblivious to our presence, often walking much too close to even photograph. In this image, I captured a beautiful Semipalmated Sandpiper with its full reflection.

I went back to West Virginia again this week. While I was dissapointed with a high pressure system and mostly clear skies (again!), on this day the clouds formed by rising air cooling over the mountains stuck around until sunset (usually they burn off about an hour before). I used a relatively quick exposure for the ground, and a 240 second exposure (ISO 100, f/22) for the sky. Ambient pink light directly behind me lit the foreground rocks up a slight pink, as well as burning in the color onto the tops of the mountains that were higher in elevation than the one I was on.
