Here’s another one from Great Falls. With my new camera gear (Canon 50D + 400 f/5.6), I was finally able to get some decent flight shots with relative ease. In this image, I particularly like the look of the rapids in the background. When I head back to Great Falls next time, I hope to capture an image with a heron flying just over turbulent waters.

Nicely done Chris! The water really does add a lot; and that light is great. For my tastes, I wish the heron was a bit more to the left; to me, it looks slightly centered. Still nice though!
Are you liking the 400/5.6 better than the 300/4?
Happy shooting and God bless,
Paul
Hey Paul,
Yeah, I do like the 400 5.6 more. I almost always used the 300 with a 1.4 TC, for 420 f/5.6. Now, my 400 is both sharper and much more faster focusing than that 300 + 1.4 combo. Only downside so far is the minimum focusing distance is pretty far away … so bad in fact that I need to get an extension tube for small songbirds. W/ the tube, it will be perfect.
