Adult Great Blue Heron Standing on a Rock with Rushing Water in the Background
This image was taken at Great Falls National Park the day after my previous image. I was lucky to finally get this image, as every time this heron would fly into this spot, another heron would come over and chase it away. After 4 attempts, he finally got to stay.

This is just fantastic, Chris!! I love the cool tones, it’s well exposed, it’s sharp, the comp is great, and the BG is just gorgeous. This would look awesome as a 2′x4′ print!
How long was the exposure?
Happy shooting and God bless,
Paul

Hey Chris,
I have been following your blog for some time now, and really admire your work. I love this image, the color, detail and bg are excellent, would make a great print!
I hope to visit Great Falls NP someday. What times of year are best to go?

Hey Landon,
Thanks for stopping in. Honestly, any time of year at Great Falls can be good. During cold spells in winter we can get some cool ice formations, and snow on top of the rocks looks really nice. Summer gives you the herons. Autumn gives you fall color and usually good sunrises/sets. Spring has the potential for good light too, but maybe not quite as much as autumn. So, if you’re going to make a trip out of it, maybe any time of the year except for spring (but even then good images can be made).

This would look even better as a 2″x4″
Just kidding. Awesome shot, dude. Are you getting a new phone? Let’s go to great falls some time soon.

Dearest BonQuiQui,
Thanks man. I’ll be getting a new phone eventually, but I’m not sure exactly when. When my mom upgrades her phone I’m going to take her old one. Should be sometime relatively soon.
Yeah, let’s definately go to Great Falls.

Chris, fantastic job with the background. Definitely captures the essence of great falls and sends the shot above and beyond with this commonly photographed bird!
