Well, whoops, looks like I missed my deadline of Thursday. I arrived home late due to bad traffic, and ended up being pretty busy yesterday. Anyways, this is an image of a Cecropia Moth, found in Upstate New York at my good friend Eric Dresser’s house. We placed the moth on these ferns and were able to obtain a few images of him before he warmed up and became uncooperative. The Cecropia Moth is a large species of moth, and certainly among the most beautiful found on the East coast.

Sweet image Chris!!! BG and perch are awesome! Only suggestion would be to move him down and to the right just a teeny, tiny bit. That’s (for some reason) how my eye feels. He’s one awesome moth! From wing-tip to wing-tip how big was he?
Happy shooting and God bless,
Paul
Whoops!! I meant “down and to the left” not “down and to the right”.
Hi Paul,
Thanks for chiming in. I struggled for a good long time with the crop, going between exactly what you suggested and the crop seen here. In the end, for some reason, I just preferred it this way. When it was down and to the left a bit things didn’t seem quite right, even if in my head it seemed that the crop should be that way.
I’m not the best at guessing sizes, but I’d say he was about 5 inches wide. Really a cool moth.
Chris,
I understand! I’ve had those type of shots before, and they about drive me to distraction trying to get them right . . . ah, well, c’est la vie . . . !
I have seen lots of images of these guys, but never one ‘in the wild.’ Cool shot Chris.
Awesome shot babe. I absolutely love the colors. They really make this a special image.
