This is another image from my trip to Bull Run Regional Park yesterday morning. While the fog mostly cleared by the time I got to the area with bluebells, this swamp held onto the fog a bit longer. I really like the lush setting in this one – the mossy logs and the trees with bloated trunks at the base. I can see visiting this swamp again in the future, it was quite beautiful.

Love the green of the grasses against the more muted colour. Wonderful photo!
Thanks Olivia, I’m glad you like it.
I am always amazed when I see negative references to ‘swamps.’ They are one of the most alive, interesting places anyone could be. Ok, so living there might be difficult in mosquito season, but more often than not, they hold so many photographic opportunities.
Absolutely agree Mark. I found that Spotted Salamander right next to this swamp. I went back the next day with my rubber boots and walked out into the middle of it, trying to find turtles or anything else cool. No luck, but I think I’ll find some more stuff once it gets hotter (and on a sunny day).
On a site note, I’ve always been intrigued by the southern swamps. You know, majestic cypress with Spanish Moss on them. I really would love to make a trip down south at some point.
Great photo! In 1965, while camping in the park with the boy scouts, my buddies and I were distracted by ghostly flashes of light in the swamp at dusk, and found fishes with clear bodies and skeletons that glowed glowed an eerie greenish-white. I wonder if they’re still there?
