I’ve been trying to get out and shoot lately, but each time I have been disappointed with the (lack of) results! I’ll just have to keep trying. Today is a refreshing 75 degrees, and with the many picturesque clouds floating about, I think I will head to Great Falls for the sunset and hope for something nice.
This image is was taken 2 days ago as severe storms moved through the area. This type of cloud, known as Mammatus, form in very unstable thunderstorms, and are my absolute favorite type of cloud. I’m lucky if I get to see them once a year in my area, so this is an unexpected treat in an otherwise photographic dryspell.

Pretty cool, Chris!! We’ve been having rain almost every day up here, so lots of clouds, but I don’t think I’ve seen any Mammatus clouds! I really like those curvy lines.
Happy shooting and God bless,
Paul
Those are some cool looking clouds. I can only think of a few times I’ve seen those. I’m feelin’ ya about the photographic dryspell around here. Fall can’t come soon enough if you ask me.

Hi Paul,
I think I’d prefer the rain over the hot humidity
Keep an eye out for cool clouds!
Hey Alex,
Thanks for stopping in. This is my first summer spent in Virginia during my photography days. Usually I spend my time in Upstate New York where many more photographic opportunities exist during this time of year. Unfortunately, I haven’t been up there nearly as much as I want this year due to a new job and saving for a new car which will actually be a reliable form of transport!
Awesome clouds. Great moody shot Chris. I love it!
