Panoramic Photo From the Rainforests of Oahu, Hawaii

After reading an article about using the “Photomerge” function in Photoshop, I decided to give it a try myself yesterday. Photomerge basically imports multiple images and then stitches them together to make a single, highly detailed photograph. Using this function, I can take multiple images in a row with the intention of combining them to make a panoramic photo. Before yesterday, panoramic images seemed complicated and out of reach, but with this newfound ability I can see my entire way of thinking compositionally changing when out in the field. I’m very excited, to say the least! The following (set of) image(s) was/were :) taken when I visited the island of Oahu, Hawaii last winter in a dense rainforest. I feel that the panoramic format really captures the lush, dense, complicated feeling of the rainforests there that a single image could not capture as well.

I am sure this small JPEG really doesn’t do this image justice. I really wish there was a good way to portray large panos on the web. Looks like there is some incredible detail here.

    Hi Mark,

I’m with you. Due to restrictions in my wordpress “template”, this is just short of the maximum size I can make things before they start shifting. I’m currently working on a stock gallery on my website where I will display panos at around 650 pixels. I’ll link to them from my blog. Guess that doesn’t help much now, sorry.

  3. Hey Chris,

Panos on WordPress leave a lot to desire, but I can see enough to tell this would be really cool large!

Panos are a lot of fun, and Photomerge is pretty powerful. Now I bet you will look at the world with a whole different vision.

    Hey Ron,

Agree on all points. I’ve already got so many new ideas about ways to shoot all my familiar locations.
