With all of that talk about the awesome camping in West Virginia, you might have expected a landscape image from the mountains. Well, it turns out I’m actually going to save that until a little later and post a beautiful bird from the second half of my trip to lake Erie in Ohio. At this location, a small mudpit along Lake Erie, there were many photogenic shorebirds that were quite tame. In this image, while lying on my stomach in the mud, I photographed a Wilson’s Snipe (a normally shy and secretive bird) performing a wingstretch with a colorful background.

Beautiful image of this species Chris. Both the low angle and the pose make this one for me.
Hi Chris!
This is sweet! I love the lighting and colours. The drip on the beak is cool too. Worth getting muddy for!!
God bless you,
Paul
